Dresden and Frauenkirche

After our first night in the hostel our friendly bus driver Wolfgang took us to Dresden where we met our tour guide Anke. She showed us many amazing buildings, such as the Zwinger Palace, the opera house and the porcelain-tiled mural of the royal family which dates back to the twelfth century. A lot of the buildings are constructed out of sandstone from the local region.
The tour ended with a visit of the Frauenkirche (church of our lady) and a climb to the top of the dome where we had an awesome view over Dresden. The students excelled themselves in the huge shopping mall and returned to the bus laden down with parcels. Everyone absolutely loved Dresden and we look forward to exploring the local area on foot tomorrow.
