Visiting Potsdam

To start the day off, we went with our German students to their first class again. We were a bit worried that it was going to rain but thankfully it didn't. Then we went to the train station where we caught the train to Potsdam train station which was just as impressive, if not more, as Berlin train station. There we met our tour guide for the day. After that we caught the Straßenbahn, which is like a tram, to Potsdam. There we crossed the Glienicker bridge where spy swaps took place during cold war although some of us were more interested in the chinese duck that went past. From there we went through the Potsdam suburbs where people like, the host of the german version of who wants to be a millionaire and some other famous people that we didn't know, lived. Then our tour guide bought a potato at one of the stalls in Potsdam which we thought was a little odd but we found out why later. From there we visited other sights like the other Brandenburg gate, the Russian church, the Cecilienhof castle and the Friedenskirche.  Then we climbed the 132 steps to the impressive Sanssouci castle where Frederick the great once lived. There we went to where he had been buried next to the castle and we found out that Frederick the Great was responsible for bringing potatoes into Germany and put the potato on his grave. After that we began to make our way home. We are looking forward to seeing the Reichstag tomorrow.
