Reichstag

Today when we got to school we went straight to the train station to catch the train to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (the main station). After that we caught the underground train for the first time to the Reichstag (parliament building). To enter the Reichstag we had to do a security check like you do in an airport. We were taken on a tour through the building where we saw the names and messages of Russian soldiers who captured the Reichstag during the war. We also saw the bullet holes on the exterior of the building. The tour finished with a visit to the parliamentary chamber and we were shown the seats where the president and the chancellor sit. Afterwards we walked to the top of the glass dome to see 360 degrees views of Berlin.

After the lunch break we went to the Holocaust Memorial which was really interesting. The tour guide was a very passionate person. When we went into the information area we learned about the atrocities of World War II and how individual families were affected. This was a powerful and thought provoking experience.
The weather matched the atmosphere of the afternoon visit. But when we got back to Werder the sun was shining.

  1. I hope Fräulein Zimmer is allowing Hans to have a decent taste of the German art of brewing
